At C.A.R.E.'s ReUse store in Port Charlotte, I found a fabulous bassinet to refurbish in anticipation of my soon-to-be-visiting new granddaughter. The labor of love was fun and the elbow grease paid off as now it looks like new. After the visit, I'll donate it back to C.A.R.E. ReUse and know that someone else also will enjoy it. One of the benefits of recycling is the feel-good. Unfortunately, at C.A.R.E. we often see another kind of cycle - that of perpetual violence within families.

The giant size bottle of Brand X fabric softener made your underwear itchy. Teal colored exterior trim paint was a bad idea. You bought two pints of brake fluid, just before fixing the brake line. Now all those barely used or unopened bottles sit on the shelf in your garage. You don't want to waste the products, and you'd gladly give them to someone who could use them.

On the evening of Saturday, January 26th, limousines will arrive chauffeuring handsome gentlemen in tuxedos and lovely ladies attired in dazzling sequins and silk. The venue will be swathed in gossamer and glitter. The genres of the music, the number of gaming dealers, the caterer's menu, the lighting and the decorations have been meticulously orchestrated. It is CARE Ball 2008, the 25th anniversary of the not-for-profit organization that serves victims of crime in Charlotte County.
